BCCI seems to have moved on with the recent uncertainties and have managed to land themselves a hefty sponsorship deal with Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Oppo smartphones.

The new deal earns BCCI a whooping INR 1079 Crore, overshadowing the previous sponsorship deals with Star TV India and Sahara.

Oppo managed to beat Vivo, Hero, Group M, Encompass, DBS Bank, Star India, PayTM and DNA to win the rights to place their logo on the jerseys of Team India Men’s and women, Under 19’s and India A team for 5 years starting after the Australia tour of India.

BCCI’s previous sponsor’s Star TV India raised concerns over the BCCI losing its voice in ICC and decided not to bid again given the “volatility” surrounding the game and concerns over lack of clarity over the Future Tour Program.

Rahul Johri, CEO, BCCI, said: “Today’s result is testimony that there is no ambiguity.” He also rejected the suggestion that big brands were no longer interested in investing in Indian cricket. “If you look at somebody putting 1079 crore for a five-year sponsorship, the company in its own right is a big company. That is testimony to the confidence in BCCI and Indian cricket.”

This is the biggest sponsorship deal in Indian sports and the sheer numbers involved shows the gap between Cricket and other sports in India.
